ARCHIVE - System requirements - What will I need to run Voyant Adviser? **Voyant Adviser, UK and Ireland**

Voyant Adviser is a Java application. To install and run it you will need to have Java installed on your computer. You will also need to have a Voyant adviser or auxiliary user account (login), an internet connection that allows access to our website, and the permissions necessary to install software on your computer. What follows are the details.

Voyant Adviser a rich internet application, meaning that it has all of the data sharing conveniences of a web application but is installed to your computer and runs much like a desktop application.

Unlike a pure web application, Voyant Adviser can be used offline whenever a connection to the internet is unavailable. There is no need to open a browser to run the software. And unlike a desktop application, Voyant Adviser can be used easily on different computers and by groups of users. Client files are updated, shared and automatically synchronised between computers.

To sign up for a free, no obligation 30-day trial of our software, please visit the appropriate country-specific website. Read more >>

In addition to , Voyant requires Java. Specifically, you should have Java 8, update 101 or later installed on your computer. Although early versions will work, we recommend that you update to the latest release of Java, which can be downloaded form the Java website.

Note: Voyant Adviser will still work on Java 6 but is only supported for enterprise licenses.

Operating system requirements

To use Voyant, your computer must run an operating system that supports the full release of Java. Generally this would be a Windows or MacOS computer.

  • Windows 7 or later
  • System RAM 1GB or more
  • 1024 x 768 Minimum Screen Resolution

  • MacBook circa 2011 or later
  • System RAM 1GB or more

Will Voyant Adviser work on tablets?

Some telephony-base operating systems designed for tablets and phones do not support Java and therefore cannot run Voyant natively. These operating systems include:

- Apple's iOS, which is used on iPads and iPhones;
- The Android operating system, which runs only a deprecated version of Java;
- The pared down tablet-only version of Windows called Windows RT.

However, you might consider using a third-party remote desktop application such as SplashTop to access Voyant Adviser via your tablet, remotely, from on a computer that can run Java. Read more >>

Also consider AdviserGo as an alternative software for use on tablets. AdviserGo is a fully web-based, completely tablet-friendly software. It will work on any computer (tablet, PC or desktop) that runs a recent release of a standard web browser, such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge, with an internet connection that permits access to the Voyant website. If you subscribe to or are trialing the standard release of Voyant Adviser, then AdviserGo already comes packaged with your subscription. You can access it today. Read more >>

Internet access

You will need a browser and internet access first to register with our website, and download and install the software.

While the software can be used offline temporarily for up to seven concurrent days, Voyant will normally need ongoing internet access in order to synchronise client files with our cloud servers and to allow us to authenticate your user information. You may also need internet access to occasionally access our website to manage your account, your user profile, and in some cases to deactivate client access or even to delete a client case.

Network requirements

We recommend using Voyant with a broadband internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN).

Voyant uses a cloud based operating system to host its service. To operate, the software must be able to connect to and pass files to and from the following URLs, depending on which country-specific version of the software you plan to use.

  Ireland -

  United Kingdom -

This connection needs to be made via HTTPS.

There are no special port requirements from the software's perspective, only the standard HTTP and HTTPS ports, 80 and 443, or requests may be routed through a proxy server if your network uses one.

If your network uses a firewall or proxy server (or in some cases if your computer uses a locally installed firewall), you may need to configure Voyant or in some cases Java itself to send and receive files to and from the Voyant servers.

Tip: If you are having problems launching Voyant but aren't sure whether your requests are being routed through a local or network proxy server, a good place to check is in your browser's settings on the computer in question. Read more >>

Additional information on how to configure Voyant or possibly Java with proxy settings can be found in the following topics.

More information about AWS allocated blocks of IP addresses can be found here

The .jar and .pack.gz files contain binary data.

Header information

Some network firewalls alter or strip information from the headers of messages received through their networks. You will need to ensure that the headers in responses from our servers, which contain important version information, are not altered or stripped by any network proxy servers. The Java Web Start component of the JRE is looking for a specific header (x-java-jnlp-version-id) in the response from our web servers when it requests the application resources. On very rare occasions we have found that some firms operate through firewalls and/or proxy servers which remove these headers from the response.

If you would like to test this outside of the Java environment, the URL format for a versioned resource is as follows.

Below is the expected response as picked up by a network request monitoring tool (We used Fiddler with Firefox).

HTTP/1.1 200 OK

You should at the very least have the free Adobe Acrobat reader installed, which will allow you to view PDF format reports. The Adobe Reader is available here, as a free download.
