Simulations and Comparative Chart Views - How to save the results from a simulation, comparative chart views, or a zoomed view of the charts into a report

Simulations and comparative charts are unavailable in the reports because these views are created ad hoc and are meant to be presented interactively. We don't have a way of recognizing which iteration one would want distilled into a report as there would likely be several different comparative views or simulations run when viewing a plan.

However, we have a built in screen capture tool that would allow you to save into reports the results of simulations or for that matter the dual chart or compare plan views.

After running the simulation, analysis, or when viewing the charts in the dual chart or compare plans modes, click any bar in the lower of the two charts.

The chart legend will display. Click the Chart Controls link at the bottom of the legend. A chart controls toolbar will display on the chart. On the right side of the toolbar you will find an icon that allows the two charts and the panel below it (omitting the software's left navigation) to be saved to memory, much like clicking CTRL + C on your keyboard when using Word. You may then run your report and use a paste command to paste the results from memory into your Word format reports.

About Chart Controls

Chart Controls are a set of tools that allow the Let's See charts (interactive results from financial plans and planning scenarios) to be easily adjusted with zoom controls. A clipboard is now also available to capture comparisons between plans and results from the software's numerous simulations.

How to Activate the Controls Panel

To use the Chart Controls, go to the Let's See screen. Select any view of the charts (single chart, dual charts or compare plans) or run any simulation (the need analysers, performance slider, Monte Carlo and historical simulations or the real money view).

Click on any bar of the chart to display the chart legend. The chart legend features a link to activate Chart Controls.

Click this link and the Chart Control panel will display in the top-right corner of the screen.

Dual Chart and Compare Plans views and most simulations present two charts in upper and lower panels. Each panel has its own set of chart controls, which are activated independently. To activate chart controls for the lower panel, for example, click on any bar of the bottom chart. The chart legend will display. Click the "Chart Controls" link to activate the chart controls in the lower panel. Chart Control panels will display in the top-right corner of the upper and lower charts.

Zoom In / Zoom Out on the Charts

Chart Controls include buttons to zoom in and out on the charts. An additional pair of buttons is provided for views and simulations with two chart panels, to synchronise the scaling of the two charts and to zoom in or out on both charts simultaneously. Charts can also be magnified or reduced in scale individually.

Copy Charts, Simulation Results, Paste them Into Reports, Presentations

Once simulation results are generated or after the charts are scaled to your specifications, click the Clipboard icon to copy the charts to the computer's clipboard. The image will be stored temporarily in memory from which it can be pasted into a Word reports (including Voyant's Word format reports), Power Point presentations or other documents.

Views with upper and lower chart panels have two different clipboard functions. The clipboard icon in the upper chart panel copies only the upper chart, individually, whereas the clipboard icon in the lower panel copies both the upper and lower charts together with the chart panel beneath it. The chart panel is included as it may display simulation results or a legend of the colour coded information in the charts.

As a final note, the clipboard feature can capture the simple view of the chart legend if it is displayed onscreen when the screenshot is taken. However, the detailed view of the chart legend cannot be captured due the manner in which it is rendered by the software.
