Events FAQ's - Video Tutorial

In this video, we will walk you through how to add, change, and delete events in Voyant.

Transcript:

In this video, I’ll walk you through how to create, move, and delete events on your timeline.

For the first example, I’m going to show you how to add new events while creating an item in the plan.

We’ll start by clicking the plus button in the bottom-right corner, then selecting Income and Other Income.

Let’s say, for example, that Amy is planning to do some freelance work for a few years that will generate approximately $35,000 annually in additional income.

When setting up the timing for this income, instead of selecting one of the automatically populated events, we’re going to create custom events directly on the timeline.

To do that, we’ll go to the timing screen and double-click in the gray area of the timeline. Let’s say the freelance work starts in the second year of the plan. We’ll set that as the start event.

Next, let’s say the income ends when Amy reaches age 60. Again, we’ll simply double-click in the gray area above the year where we want the event to occur.

Now we have Amy starting her freelance business at age 53 and ending it at age 60.

We’ll click Done to save those events and apply the timing to the income.

Next, I want to walk you through deleting events from the timeline.

If your client has an event on the timeline they no longer want, you can go to the Timeline section and hover over the event icons to see what each one represents.

For example, let’s say Amy decides she no longer wants to remodel the kitchen.

When you click on that event, you’ll notice a blue banner indicating that the event affects the timing of another item in the plan.

You can click to view the details and open the connected item. Once you delete the item associated with that event, you can return to the timeline, open the event again, and you’ll now see the trash can icon available so the event itself can also be deleted from the plan.

In this example, the kitchen remodel is now completely removed from the timeline.

You can also move items on the timeline very easily by clicking and dragging them.

For example, if Amy decides she wants to continue working until age 65 instead of retiring earlier, you can simply click and drag the retirement event to the new year. If needed, you can move it back the same way.

The last thing I want to show you is how to add a standalone event to the timeline.

We’ll click the plus button in the bottom-right corner again and select Event.

Let’s say Amy mentions that she’d like to buy a boat someday. We’ll create an event called “Buy a Boat.”

She doesn’t yet know how much the boat will cost, but she’d like to do it sometime around age 60, so we’ll place the event on the timeline at that age.

Now we can see the “Buy a Boat” event on the timeline.

If we click on it, we can see that it’s not connected to any financial item and doesn’t currently have a monetary value attached to it. It’s simply acting as a reminder or placeholder on the timeline.

This can be helpful for advisers during future review meetings so they remember to revisit the conversation and discuss whether the client would still like to pursue that goal.

If needed, these standalone events can also be deleted at any time.

I hope this was helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us by clicking on your client’s name in the top-right corner, selecting Request Support, entering your message, and sharing client access with our team.

Thanks for listening!
