Browser caching is useful for web browsing in that it allows for page that you’ve visited previously to load much more quickly. Modern browsers like Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox and Safari tend to cache front-end resources like JavaScript and style sheets (CSS) to increase web application and website performance. While enhancing performance is usually a great thing, cached resources can cause problems when you have a major change to a web application’s JavaScript or style sheets, as we have with the redesigned charts in AdviserGo.
Sometimes, the only way to see updates is by doing a hard refresh or by clearing the entire cache of the browser.
If changes made to a web application or website don’t register immediately due to caching, a hard refresh will usually fix this, though occasionally completely clearing the cache may be necessary. A hard refresh offers a quick and easy way to clear the browser’s cache for a specific page, forcing it to load the latest and greatest version of it. If AdviserGo looks out of sorts following an update, a hard refresh of the page would be the first option to try before entirely clearing your browser cache.
Google Chrome
Windows:
1. Press the Ctrl key on your keyboard while clicking the Reload button in Chrome.
2. Or press Ctrl + Fn + F5 on your keyboard.
3. Or open the Chrome Dev Tools by pressing Ctrl + Shift + I on your keyboard or right-click anywhere on the page and select Inspect.
Once the chrome dev tools are open, right-click the refresh button in Chrome and a drop-down menu will display. This menu gives you the option of doing a hard refresh (reload) or empty cache with a hard reload.
Mac:
1. Press the ⇧ Shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Reload button in Chrome.
2. Or press ⌘ Cmd +⇧ Shift + R on your keyboard.
Mozilla Firefox and related browsers
Windows:
1. Press Ctrl + Fn + F5 on your keyboard.
2. Or press Ctrl +⇧ Shift + R on your keyboard.
Mac:
1. Press the ⇧ Shift key on your keyboard while clicking the Reload button in Firefox.
2. Or press ⌘ Cmd+ ⇧ Shift + R on your keyboard.
Microsoft Edge (Windows)
1. Press Ctrl on your keyboard while clicking the Refresh button in MS Edge.
2. Or press Ctrl + Fn + F5 on your keyboard.
Safari (Mac)
1. Press Shift on your keyboard while clicking the Refresh button in Safari.
2. Or press Command (⌘) + Option (⌥) + R on your keyboard.
