Overview
The Legacy screen in Voyant has been redesigned to better support advisers and their clients. This update focuses on improving readability, simplifying navigation, and creating a more intuitive flow so advisers can quickly understand and explain a client’s legacy picture.
The new design brings key outcomes front and center, while still allowing advisers to drill into detail when needed. Information is now organized using collapsed and detailed views, making it easier to move between high-level conversations and deeper technical discussions.
Legacy Summary
The Legacy Summary is now the focal point of the screen. It provides a high-level snapshot of how much wealth your client has, how much may be lost to estate taxes, and how much ultimately transfers to beneficiaries and charities.
What’s New at a Glance
- Clear separation between pre-tax wealth, estate tax impact, and post-tax transfers
- Improved visual hierarchy to highlight the most important legacy outcomes
- Clear distinction between assets subject to estate tax and those exempt from estate tax
- New focused Legacy Detail Cards for deeper insights
- A reimagined Summary Flowchart emphasizing where wealth ultimately goes
Total Wealth (Pre-Tax)
This section reflects the client’s total wealth before any estate taxes are applied.
Collapsed View
- Displays the aggregate value of all assets and liabilities.
Detailed View
Breaks total wealth into clear line items, each shown with pre-tax values and categorized as either Subject to Estate Tax or Exempt from Estate Tax:
- Savings & Investments
- Property
- Companies
- Trusts
- Life Insurance
Liabilities are displayed separately for clarity.
Estate Tax Treatment Logic
- Subject to Estate Tax: Assets held within the taxable estate.
- Exempt from Estate Tax: Assets that bypass the estate at a mortality event, including:
- Life insurance proceeds paid to a spouse at first mortality
- Charitable gifts at first or second mortality
- Transfers to trust at first or second mortality
Total Estate Tax Bill
This section summarizes the estimated estate tax liability.
Collapsed View
Displays total federal and state estate tax amounts (where applicable).
Detailed View
Provides a clearer breakdown at both the federal and state levels:
- Total Taxable Amount
- Estate Exemption
- Net Taxable Amount
This structure helps advisers explain not just the tax owed, but why that tax exists.
Total Wealth Transfer (Post-Tax)
This section shows how much wealth is ultimately transferred after estate taxes and planning strategies are applied.
Collapsed View
Displays the aggregate amount transferred after both mortality events, broken out by:
- Subject to Estate Tax
- Exempt from Estate Tax
Summary Flowchart
A new Legacy Summary Flowchart has been introduced to help advisers visualize where wealth ultimately goes.
Rather than focusing purely on account types, the reimagined flowchart emphasizes the destination of distributions from:
- Assets inside the estate, and
- Assets outside of the estate
at each mortality event (first and second).
This makes it easier to explain:
- How estate assets flow to beneficiaries, trusts, or charities
- How non-estate assets (such as trusts, insurance, or charitable vehicles) bypass the estate
- The timing of transfers at each mortality event
Legacy Detail Cards
In addition to the enhanced summary view, the redesigned Legacy screen introduces focused cards that allow advisers to explore specific areas of a client’s legacy in more detail.
These cards support deeper conversations while keeping each topic clearly scoped and easy to understand.
Beneficiaries Card
The Beneficiaries card summarizes gifts made to beneficiaries over the client’s lifetime and at mortality. Values are broken out by beneficiary and by category, helping advisers clearly show how and when wealth is transferred.
Trust & Corporate Card
This card provides a concise summary of trusts and corporate interests included in the plan.
- Trust Value
Displays trust values based on the defined Trust Legacy logic. - Corporate Value
Displays the cash value of business interests as of the second mortality event.
Taxes Card
The Taxes card brings valuation and tax information together, organized by mortality event.
The Taxes tables display:
- Federal estate taxes due
- State estate taxes due (where applicable)
Each table is shown separately for first and second mortality, supporting clear explanations of tax impact over time.
Valuation Summary
The Valuation Summary table provides:
- A detailed breakdown of each asset and liability line item
- The values contributing to the total Legacy value at each mortality event
- A separate column showing the individual line amounts that comprise the estate value
