How to Delete a Spouse from a Voyant Plan
In today's video, I'm going to walk you through how to delete a spouse from a plan, whether it's due to divorce or death. Sometimes it’s necessary to remove someone from a Voyant plan, and I want to show you the best way to do this.
Identifying the Spouse to Remove
First, I’m going to go to Janice, who we’ll be deleting shortly. I’ll open her profile, and I can see that Janice is the owner of seven items. I’ll click on Show Details to view each item she owns or partially owns.
Removing the Spouse from Goals
I’ll start by removing her from any existing goals in the plan. First, I’ll click on the Goals section, then the Retirement Goal. The first step is to remove Janice from the retirement goal.
Next, I’ll check the timing to ensure it does not rely on Janice’s events. I’ll go to the Plan End and select that as my end event instead of her mortality event.
Since her husband has already retired, I will set the start event from the plan start date. This way, none of the events will be in Janice’s name anymore.
Reviewing Remaining Items
Now, going back to Janice’s profile, we can see she only has five items remaining. I’ll open this up to view them. There is still a Retirement Event, which we will leave for now since it will be deleted when we remove her from the plan.
Removing Income and Investments
Next, I’ll go to Income and delete Janice’s income from the plan.
I’ll go back into Janice's profile again, access Savings and Investments, and see that she is linked to an unwrapped investment account. I will remove her from that account as well. Again, I’ll double-check the timing to make sure nothing is tied to any of her icons, and then click Done to save those changes.
Continuing to Reduce Items
I’m going to go back to Janice’s profile. We now have three items left. I’ll navigate to Pensions to remove her pension from the plan.
If an item is to remain in the plan, you can change the ownership to the spouse who will remain in the plan.
Final Steps for Deletion
Now that we have taken these steps, we can delete Janice from the plan. She is no longer linked to anything.
Let’s proceed to delete her from the plan. After she has been deleted, if we go back to Timing or Timeline, you can see that her event icons for retirement and mortality have been removed from the plan.
