Creating, Editing, and Deleting Events in Voyant

In this video, I'm going to show you how to create, edit, and delete events in Voyant.

What Are Events?

Events are place markers that represent key moments in a client's life, forming a framework around which the financial plan is built. Events can be entered on the timeline, and they are an extremely flexible and powerful feature in Voyant.

Events allow you to schedule future occurrences and serve as discussion points as you present plans to your clients. You can view them in the timeline, charts, dashboard, and the "Let's See" feature, clearly illustrating these inflection points on the timeline.

Creating an Event

To create an event, go to the Timeline and click on the Plus button in the bottom right corner. Select the Event tile.

You can create an event by filling in all the required fields denoted by asterisks. Set the timing of the event using the year, age, or slider.

For example, let’s have the owner as David, and set this event to occur when he is 67. Once you've completed all sections, click Done. The event will now appear on the timeline.

You can also create an event by double-clicking on a specific year on the timeline. If you want to edit this event, you can select it and change the icon, for example, using the inheritance icon. Click on Done, and you’ll see the updated event on the timeline.

Linking Events to Windfalls

Currently, the event serves as a marker for potential future expenses or windfalls. In this example, let's link it to a windfall. Return to the dashboard, click on the Plus button in the bottom right corner, select Income, and then choose Windfall.

Fill in the basic information, labeling it as Inheritance. Enter the amount, and note that you can use "k" to indicate thousands (e.g., $50k).

Next, go to Timing to link this windfall to the event you created by dragging it into the box that specifies when it occurs. Once done, click Done.

Now, the event is scheduled to occur when the windfall happens, and you'll see it on the timeline at age 67.

Moving Events

Events can schedule not only windfalls or expenses but also contributions to savings or investments. If you need to change when an event is scheduled, simply go to the timeline, click on the event, and move it to the desired time.

After moving the event, you'll see that any linked windfall or events adjust accordingly.

To edit an event, select it from the timeline or from the list, and you can modify the name, icons, or timing. Once finished, remember to click Done.

Deleting Events

To delete an event, click on it, and you'll see a trash bin icon in the top left corner. Click on the bin to delete the event. If the event is linked to something else, such as the windfall, you'll need to unlink it before you can delete the event itself.
