Investment Returns Insight Transcript
Hello, and welcome to today’s AdviserGo training.
Today, we’re going to walk through Voyant’s Investment Returns Insight.
This insight analyzes the client’s plan and helps determine the baseline rate of return needed for the plan to be successful without any projected shortfall.
You can run the insight from the start of the plan to the end of the plan, or you can adjust the start event if you want to focus on a specific phase, such as retirement.
For this example, we’re going to run the insight for the full duration of the plan.
Once the analysis is complete, the software shows that this plan needs a minimum annual rate of return of 4.25% year over year in order to remain successful and avoid a projected shortfall.
From here, we can compare the insight results against the client’s current plan by clicking Compare to Plan.
The biggest difference between the two versions will usually be seen in the Assets chart.
For this example, I’m going to remove the non-liquid assets from the view since they are not a major factor in this analysis.
Now we can see the difference between the original plan and the insight result plan. In the insight result, the plan is being modeled with a 4.25% rate of return, which represents the minimum return needed to keep the plan out of the red.
As we review the projected asset values in retirement, we can see how the two versions compare over time.
We can also look at the final year of the plan to see the difference in the estimated remaining assets between the original plan and the insight result.
In this example, the Investment Returns Insight is showing us the bare minimum rate of return needed for the client’s plan to remain successful and avoid a projected shortfall.
This can be a helpful conversation tool when reviewing whether the client’s current assumptions, investment strategy, or portfolio expectations are aligned with the overall success of the plan.
