Financial plans often contain highly sensitive personal and financial information. To help support additional security and access control, advisers can now apply password protection to individual client plans in AdviserGo.
Once enabled, users will be required to enter a password before opening the protected client plan. This applies whether the client is accessed from the client list, through a direct link, or via launch-in-context integrations.
Note: This feature is expected to become available June 26th, 2026.
How to Set or Reset a Client Password
Users with Full Control access to a client can manage passwords directly from the Admin Console.
To set or reset a password:
- Open the client in AdviserGo.
- Click the client’s name in the top-right corner.
-
Select View in Admin Console.
- In the Admin Console, select Set/Reset Client Password.
- Enter your chosen password and confirm it.
Password Requirements
- Minimum of 8 characters
- Passwords must match
- Special characters are not permitted
Once confirmed, the password takes effect immediately. A lock icon will appear on the client to indicate that password protection is enabled.
Accessing a Password-Protected Client
The first time you open a protected client during a session, you’ll be redirected to a secure access page.
This page displays basic client information, such as the client name, country, and dates, so you can confirm you are opening the correct plan.
To continue:
- Enter the client password
- Click Open Client
After the correct password is entered:
- Access is remembered for the remainder of your session
- You can move between AdviserGo and the Admin Console without re-entering the password
- If you accessed the client via a direct link to a specific page (such as Reports or Timeline), you’ll be returned directly to that page after authentication
- Otherwise, you’ll be taken to the Dashboard by default
The password only needs to be entered once per session for each protected client.
Permissions and Access Rules
Password management and access behavior depend on the user’s role.
Advisers with Full Control
Can:
- Set passwords
- Reset passwords
- Delete passwords for their own clients
Subscription Managers and Owners
Can:
- Delete a client password
However, they must still enter the password to access the client plan unless they are part of an exempt administrative role.
Administrative Roles
The following roles are exempt from password entry requirements:
- Admin
- Entity Group Manager
- Self-Hosted Admin
These users can open protected clients directly.
Read-Only Users
Read-only users:
- Must enter the password to access protected clients
- Cannot set, reset, or remove passwords
Consumer Users
Clients accessing their own Consumer portal accounts are not prompted for a password and will continue to log in normally.
Additional Notes
- Password protection applies across all access methods, including direct links and launch-in-context workflows.
- If a user attempts to open a client URL that no longer exists, they will automatically be redirected back to the Client List.
