Today we’re going to take a look at the role that the Timeline and Events play within the software.
From your Dashboard, go to the Timeline section. Here you can see all of the event icons for different events that we’ve entered into the plan—such as planning for university expenses for the child or a family trip to Europe.
Events are used to visually depict your clients’ goals, aspirations, planning concerns, and future milestones. The Timeline section is where you bring your clients’ financial goals to life, emphasize key points in time, and most importantly, make the plan both personal and unique.
Let’s start with how to add an event to the timeline. There are two ways you can do this:
-
Double-click anywhere on the event timeline, or
-
Go to the plus button in the bottom-right of your screen and select Add Event.
For example, let’s add the purchase of a dream car. I’ll assign this event to Raul and give it the “midlife crisis” car icon. Raul has told us he would like to purchase this car at age 55. We can either select age 55 from the dropdown menu or drag the slider bar to age 55.
At this point, you can select Save and Add Another if you want to enter multiple events, or simply click Done.
As you can see, Raul’s “Purchase of a Dream Car” event has now been added to the timeline.
Now, let’s say the next time Raul comes in, he wants to adjust the timing to age 60. We can open the event and adjust the timing in the settings, or simply drag and drop the event icon along the timeline to age 60.
You’ll also notice that the event icons are color-coded to the person in the plan. Raul’s events are shown in blue, Angelica’s events are in green, and their son Santiago’s events are in pink.
For presentation purposes, you can also deselect different people in the plan. For example, you might first talk about Angelica’s goals, then bring in Raul’s, and lastly show Santiago’s education expense planning.
