Using the Goal Priority Analysis Insight in AdviserGo

This guide explains how to use and interpret the Goal Priority Analysis Insight in AdviserGo. This insight helps advisers and clients explore what happens when retirement goals are re-evaluated based on priority, particularly when a plan shows shortfalls.

What Is the Goal Priority Analysis Insight?

Insights in AdviserGo are conversation starters designed to help explore scenarios quickly with clients.

Key points about Insights:

  • They sit outside the plan
  • They do not change the underlying plan
  • They allow you to explore “what if” scenarios in just a few clicks
  • They are not advice, but tools to support informed discussions

The Goal Priority Analysis Insight specifically shows what happens when goals are removed or deprioritized based on their importance.

When This Insight Is Useful

In this example plan for Simon and Helen, the plan shows shortfalls—represented by red bars in the charts—indicating that not all retirement goals can be met as currently modeled.

The Goal Priority Analysis Insight helps clients:

  • See which goals are achievable
  • Understand which goals may need to be reduced or removed
  • Have informed discussions about trade-offs, savings, and priorities

Understanding Goal Priorities

In AdviserGo, each goal can be assigned a priority level using the priority slider.

In this example:

Must-Have Goals

  • Core retirement income needs
  • Set at the top priority (Basic)
  • These goals are funded first

Like-to-Have Goals

  • Discretionary spending such as holidays
  • Set at a mid-level priority (Leisure)
  • Funded after essential goals

Nice-to-Have Goals

  • Luxury or optional spending (for example, an additional holiday)
  • Set at a lower priority (Luxury)
  • Funded only if sufficient resources remain

Individual Goals

  • Example: a house deposit for Lucy
  • In this plan, also set as a Luxury priority

What the Insight Helps Clients Understand

The Goal Priority Analysis Insight allows clients to re-evaluate the plan by:

  • Removing or deprioritizing lower-priority goals
  • Seeing whether essential goals can still be achieved
  • Understanding what may need to be sacrificed unless savings, investments, or contributions are increased earlier in life

This insight often pairs well with other tools such as:

  • Annual Savings Insight
  • Investment Returns Insight
  • Lump Sum Savings Insight

Selecting and Deselecting Goals

Within the insight:

  • Use the sliders to deselect entire categories of goals, or
  • Select or deselect individual goals directly

In this example:

  • The Nice-to-Have goals are deselected
  • The Like-to-Have goals are also deselected
  • Only Must-Have, education, and key individual goals remain

After making selections, click Get Started.

Interpreting the Results

The resulting chart shows the outcome after removing selected goals.

In this example:

  • With lower-priority goals removed, the remaining goals can be achieved
  • The red shortfall bars are eliminated for the remaining goals

This helps clients clearly see which goals are driving affordability issues.
