Adding Plan Notes to Plans and Reports in Voyant
This article explains how to add plan notes in Voyant and include them in client reports. Plan notes help document client conversations, assumptions, and key decisions discussed during plan reviews.
What Are Plan Notes?
Plan notes are internal notes that:
- Capture important client conversations
- Record assumptions or scenarios discussed
- Appear directly in client reports when selected
- Can differ between base plans and what-if plans
They are commonly used to explain why certain modeling decisions were made or to reinforce recommendations presented to the client.
Adding Notes to a Plan (Base Plan or What-If Plan)
- Open the client record.
- In the top-right corner, click Manage Plans.
- Select Plan Details.
- Enter your notes in the Plan Notes field.
These notes typically summarize:
- Topics discussed during the plan review
- Client goals or concerns
- Agreed assumptions or next steps
- Click Save.
Once saved, these notes are stored with that specific plan and can be included in reports.
Including Plan Notes in Client Reports
- Navigate to the Reports section.
- Under the report library, select Plan Notes.
- Add Plan Notes to your report set as a client deliverable.
- Generate the report as usual.
When included, plan notes appear as a dedicated section in the final report.
Adding Notes to Individual Reports
In addition to plan-level notes, you can add custom notes to specific reports.
How to Add Report-Specific Notes
- Select one or more Detailed Reports (for example, Cash Flow or Assets).
- Go to Review, Configure, and Generate.
- Click the three-dot menu next to a report.
- Select Configure.
- Enter notes specific to that report.
- Click Save.
These notes apply only to that report, not the entire plan.
Using Different Notes for What-If Plans
You can create separate notes for different plan versions, such as:
- Retire early
- Market dip scenario
- Inflation stress test
For example:
In this version, we are modeling a market dip combined with inflation. We have included recession-resistant products to help prevent shortfall.
These notes help clients clearly understand:
- What scenario they are reviewing
- Why the results differ from the base plan
- What strategies were used to manage risk
Where Notes Appear in the Final Report
After generating a report:
- Plan notes appear as a general notes section
- Report-specific notes appear at the bottom of each report
- Notes are labeled as Advisor Notes
This allows clients to connect the visuals in the report with the conversation you had during the meeting.
Best Practices for Plan Notes
- Keep notes client-friendly and conversational
- Focus on why changes were made, not just what changed
- Use notes to reinforce key recommendations
- Customize notes for different scenarios to avoid confusion
