Updating a Voyant Plan to a New Planning Year (Update & Promote)
In today’s training, we’ll walk through how to update a Voyant plan to a new planning year using the Update and Promote feature.
You can update plans based on:
- A calendar year, or
- A tax year
In this example, we’ll update a plan using a calendar year.
Step 1: Open Update & Promote
- Open the client’s plan
- Click the plan name in the top-right corner
- Select Manage Plans
- Click Update and Promote
This allows you to roll the plan forward into a new planning year while preserving the previous version for compliance.
Step 2: Set the New Planning Year
- Click Next
- Enter a new plan name
Example:
Current Position 2025 - Choose Set date manually
- Enter the new plan start date
Example: January 1, 2025 (calendar year) - Click Next
- Select Promote
Step 3: Review and Update Plan Values
After promotion, Voyant will prompt you to review plan values.
- Click Review
- Check balances, income amounts, expenses, and other values
- Make any required updates
- Click Done to save and finalize the plan
This ensures the plan reflects accurate values for the new planning year.
Step 4: Confirm the New Plan Version
Once complete:
- You’ll see Current Position 2025 displayed in the top-right corner
- Select Show All Plans to view plan history
You’ll now see:
- Current Position 2025 as the active plan
- Current Position after Review 2024 moved to the Historical Plans section
Step 5: Understand Historical Plan Locking
The prior year plan:
- Is marked Read-Only
- Cannot be edited
- Is retained for compliance and audit purposes
You can still:
- Open it
- View Year View
- Reference previous assumptions, discussions, or recommendations
Step 6: Continue Planning in the New Year
When viewing the new plan:
- Year View will now start in 2025
- The plan is fully editable
- You can continue active planning, scenario modeling, and client reviews
Key Takeaways
- Update and Promote creates a clean rollover into a new planning year
- Prior plans remain locked for compliance
- You can use either calendar year or tax year
- Reviewing values is a critical step to ensure accuracy
